Illustration Friday - Prehistoric

I've used this little guy before for Illustration Friday - but he's certainly not far removed from his prehistoric ancestors

Illustration Friday - Sneaky

One of the best shows on TV in my opinion is House and the main character played by Hugh Laurie certainly can be sneaky. Having first seen Laurie playing British buffoons in Blackadder and Jeeves and Wooster I continue to be amazed at how he well he plays this character and his mastery of the American accent

Illustration Friday - Trail

I have been so busy working at a computer programming contract job that I've done no painting for months. However this older watercolour of the Watchman Trail in Zion National Park fits this subject very well

Illustration Friday - Subterranean

"The subterraneans is a name invented by a poet and friend of mine who said 'They are hip without being slick, they are intelligent without being corny, they are intellectual as hell and know all about Pound without being pretentious or talking too much about it, they are very quiet, they are very Christlike'" from The Subterraneans by Jack Kerouac

Illustration Friday - Propagate

for this topic I immediately thought of Jay-Z's rap on P.Diddy's song Young G's, thinking back to his school days he says: "I hated algebra but I loved to multiply". Love that line and the whole song

Illustration Friday - Muddy

The great blues singer and guitarist, Muddy Waters. Back in 1973 when I met my wife one of our first dates was seeing Muddy and his band at the Colonial Tavern in Toronto. He was already in his late fifties and sat down throughout his performance but his voice and guitar playing were wonderful.

some clumsy shading here though I like to think it was deliberate, and definitely a clumsy attempt to make this picture fit the topic

Illustration Friday - Confined

I originally did this pastel from a photo I took at Chicago's Lincoln Park Zoo, I eliminated the cage bars for my pastel. For this topic I put them in using Gimp. I have mixed feelings about zoos, on one hand it's great to see th animals close up, on the other hand they are often confined to rather small areas

Illustration Friday - Renewal

I had a hard time thinking of an image for this so I did a few Internet searches and discovered a pagan symbol for renewal, the eagle. Apparently for the celts the eagle symbolized renewal, courage and intelligence and teaches how to rejuvenate and renew one’s life.
