Illustration Friday - Wild

There have recently been a few things in the paper about pet monkeys, first the lady who lost hers at an Ikea store and then Justin Bieber trying to bring his monkey into Germany. Apparently monkeys are terrible pets and become quite traumatized by being treated as pets, dogs and cats have been domestic pets for centuries, leave monkeys alone, they're wild animals

Illustration Friday - Talent

John Hammond is probably best known for signing Bob Dylan to Columbia records but he had a remarkable ability to recognize musical talent. This is his Wikipedia intro:

John Henry Hammond II (December 15, 1910 – July 10, 1987) was an American record producer, Civil Rights activist and music critic from the 1930s to the early 1980s. In his service as a talent scout, Hammond became one of the most influential figures in 20th century popular music.

Hammond was instrumental in sparking or furthering numerous musical careers, including those of Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Benny Goodman, Charlie Christian, Billie Holiday, Count Basie, Teddy Wilson, Big Joe Turner, Pete Seeger, Babatunde Olatunji, Aretha Franklin, George Benson, Freddie Green, Leonard Cohen, Arthur Russell, Asha Puthli and Stevie Ray Vaughan. He is also largely responsible for the revival of delta blues artist Robert Johnson's music.

Illustration Friday - Whisper

I heard ten thousand whisperin' and nobody listenin'
I heard one person starve, I heard many people laughin'
Heard the song of a poet who died in the gutter
Heard the sound of a clown who cried in the alley
And it's a hard, it's a hard, it's a hard, it's a hard
And it's a hard rain's a-gonna fall.

The apocalyptic visions of a very young Bob Dylan

Illustration Friday - Explore

I've been wanting to explore using acrylics on paper as an alternative to watercolour and gouache so it was great that Liquitex did a demo at the Guelph School Of Art on Sunday, at the end we received a  free brush, gloss medium and 2 tubes of paint, a Gold Green and a Magenta which accounts for the colours used here

Jimi Hendrix certainly explored many new possibilities for the electric guitar during his sadly short career
